Sort of a cross between Motel Hell and Eaten Alive but with no boobs and a bit less gore. But a studly John Saxon plays the overprotective dad of a pretty teen white girl for the fiftieth time in the 80s, and the final girl looks quite a bit like Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks. By waiting until my thirty first year on this planet to see Blood Salvage I feel that I've missed the opportunity to connect with it at it's fullest potential.
Like something I would have rented with my Dad or bought at the flea market in my formative years. Now I'm jaded and spoiled and its charms are slightly lost on me. I've seen a lot of hickspolitation, I've watched the TCM rip-offs. And while I love John Saxon Dad-moment, something here left me feeling a little cold.
Still, there's some beauty here. Light viewing material with familiar faces and structural themes. A good "breather" in the midst of a marathon. This isn't great by any means, but it's kind of a hidden gem! I was expecting a bad movie I would half pay attention to while watching Shane Dawson videos, but I ended up paying attention to this whole thing and I don't regret it. While this is certainly a very intentional mashup of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Motel Hell, and Mother's Day if they'd called this Father's Day I would have believed it , it's quite an oddity.
Produced by and briefly featuring Evander Holyfield! The female lead is shrill, John Saxon is underused, but there's a weird charm to this, probably because of the finale, which turns out to be a stunt spectacular including a full-body burn, a sweet car flip, and a huge explosion.
