UMSI students spend four years as an undergraduate at Texas Tech University, which gives them the opportunity to demonstrate significant evidence of health-related activities in a hospital or clinical setting, which is a medical school requirement for students within the program.

By waiving the MCAT requirement and guaranteeing medical school admission, UMSI gives students the opportunity to have a varied undergraduate experience, including taking on internships or studying abroad. Study abroad programs must be taken with an affiliated Texas Tech University institution or program, and the grades must appear on your Texas Tech University transcript. Early matriculation may be considered after students have completed at least three years of undergraduate study at TTU, so long as applicants demonstrate accelerated levels of professionalism and preparedness for medical school, as well as submit a formal request to the Office of Admissions.

Students who apply for early matriculation must have completed all prerequisite coursework, fulfilled the requirements in the UMSI and Honors College Agreements, and submitted all volunteer and healthcare hours. After these requirements have been met and their request has been approved by the Office of Admissions, the student will be able to submit their application for consideration. This is not a guarantee for early matriculation. The following items must be submitted to Texas Tech University Undergraduate Admissions at the time of application. Scores should be sent to Texas Tech by the testing service agency. Submit the self-reported Academic Record Letters of evaluation 2 letters of evaluation are required. These letters should address both the academic and the leadership potential of the student. Two letters of evaluation are required as a part of your UMSI application, which must be submitted within the online application. These letters should address your readiness and preparation to pursue medicine and complete both the UMSI and medical school programs.

The Casper test is an online screening tool designed to evaluate key personal and professional characteristics that TTUHSC School of Medicine feels are important for medical students and graduates. Complete and submit a Casper test by the application deadline in order to maintain admission eligibility.

Our medical school curriculum addresses these needs. Prerequisite requirements have been kept to a minimum to allow and encourage the student to have a broad and well-rounded education. The four-year curriculum provides a broad introduction to medical knowledge while developing the student's analytical and problem-solving skills. Students will have an opportunity for clinical experiences starting in the first year through formal class work and mentoring by practicing physicians.

Our four-year MD program devotes three years to a dynamic, foundational blend of basic science, research and interdisciplinary clinical practice, followed by a final year of clinical specialization. Students pursuing a career in Family Medicine can apply for this three-year program during their first year of medical school. Students may choose to return to the regular four-year program at any time. However, any FMAT scholarship support will revert to loan status and must be repaid.

This program is only for students committed to careers in primary care. ACE-PC students start working in Kaiser Permanente primary care clinics within the first few weeks of starting the program and continue in these clinics for three years.

Unique curricular content includes population management, chronic disease management, quality improvement, patient safety, team-based care and preventive health skills with special emphasis on diverse and underserved populations. Students can apply for the program during the secondary application, and may choose to return to the four-year program at any time. This program is only for students interested in practicing Family Medicine who have a strong desire to remain in Georgia.

Students apply during the Spring of Year 1 and may opt to return to the four-year program at any time. The curriculum is very similar to their four-year MD program, but is compressed into weeks of instructional time and offers more educational contact opportunities between students and the Family Medicine faculty.

To this end, applicants are restricted to studying cognitive specialties, such as internal medicine, pediatrics, neurology, psychiatry, or pathology. You can apply for this program when you receive the secondary in the regular medical school application process. The program is divided into preclinical courses 18 Months , major clinical year 12 Months , and subinternship and electives 6 Months.

Students begin in August of their first year and finish in May of their third year, working over the summers.
